Healthcare Across Generations: Darra’s Story

For Darra, Adirondack Health isn’t just a hospital, it’s been part of every chapter of her life. That connection began in childhood after a three-wheeler accident near Rainbow Lake sent her to the ER.

“That was the first time I really experienced what it meant to have this hospital right here when you needed it,” Darra said.

Years later, she gave birth to her own children here, and today, her family continues to receive their care at Adirondack Health. “This hospital has touched every part of my family’s life, for generations.”

Darra’s pride deepens when she talks about the opportunities Adirondack Health created for her daughter-in-law and niece while they earned their RN degrees. Balancing families, full-time jobs, and coursework would have been impossible if they had to travel hours away. “Having Adirondack Health here provided the chance to succeed,” she said.

For Darra, health care close to home is essential, especially for children and families. “We are so fortunate to have this hospital right here.” Quick access for checkups, urgent care, and emergencies is critical and must be paired with quality care and advanced technology to attract top professionals.

For Darra, giving back is personal. She’s chosen to become a monthly donor to the Adirondack Health Foundation because she sees her gift as an investment in her family’s future and in her community’s well-being.

“I give monthly because this hospital has touched every part of my family’s life,” she said. “It’s my way of making sure it’s always here. This isn’t just a hospital, it’s a cornerstone of our community.”

Darra gives because she knows what it means to have health care close to home. Her generosity is a promise that the same care will be here for the next generation. In moments big and small, this is how we come together, for each other, Together for Good.
