Adirondack Health Foundation awards $46,862 in 2026 Mini-Grants to advance patient care and innovation
The Adirondack Health Foundation announced the awarding of $46,862 in Mini-Grant funding for 2026, supporting a range of staff-led initiatives designed to enhance patient care, improve access to services, and strengthen healthcare delivery across Adirondack Health.
The Foundation’s Mini-Grant Program empowers frontline staff to bring forward innovative ideas that may fall outside traditional budgeting cycles. These grants provide flexible, short-term funding for projects aligned with Adirondack Health’s strategic priorities, including advancing access to care, enriching the workforce, and enhancing operations and infrastructure.
“This program is a powerful example of what happens when we invest directly in the ideas of our care teams,” said Adirondack Health Foundation Board Chair Heather Bumsted. “These grants not only support innovation—they directly improve the patient experience and strengthen our ability to deliver high-quality care across the Adirondack region.”
The 2026 Mini-Grant recipients represent a diverse group of departments and initiatives across the health system. Funded projects include an emergency department fluid and blanket warmer to enhance patient comfort; a self-monitored blood pressure program to expand access and improve chronic disease management; the “Reach Out and Read” program at Tupper Lake Health Center to support early literacy and community health; and a patient belongings cart for the endoscopy department to improve the patient experience and operational efficiency.
Additional awards support a clean versus contaminated storage unit for the endoscopy department to strengthen infection control protocols and workflows; adaptive feeding equipment within nutrition and rehabilitation services to promote continued nutritional health and patient independence following discharge; a CAPC membership for the palliative care program to enhance training and expand access to specialized care; and an employee appreciation cart to support workforce engagement and wellbeing.
Other investments included a Wilson frame to support surgical care and improve patient outcomes; an ultrasound “Butterfly” device for obstetrics; a Smart-G-Scote USB capillaroscopy for rheumatology to enhance diagnostic capabilities; funding an IT training initiative to strengthen staff knowledge and system utilization; and a high-low treatment table for outpatient rehabilitation to enhance patient safety and therapeutic effectiveness.
These projects reflect the creativity and dedication of Adirondack Health staff, addressing real-time needs while improving both clinical outcomes and the overall patient experience.
Mini-Grants typically range from $500 to $5,000 and are awarded through a competitive review process that evaluates strategic alignment, feasibility, and impact. Projects are selected based on their ability to advance care delivery, remove barriers to access, and enhance the healthcare experience across the region.
Through programs like the Mini-Grant initiative, the Adirondack Health Foundation continues to serve as a bridge between donors, the community, and care teams, ensuring that philanthropic support translates directly into meaningful improvements in health outcomes throughout the Adirondacks.
