A Triumphant Recovery: How Adirondack Health Helped James Adams Return to His Passion

“You will never find a better place or staff!”

James Adams is no stranger to the thrill of adventure. Whether competing in a triathlon or gliding through the crisp winter air on his cross-country skis, James had spent a lifetime pushing his body to its limits. But a complicated knee injury that included a dislocation threatened to bring all of that to an abrupt halt.

For years, James had lived with the pain, determined to continue his activities despite the growing discomfort. However, as the years wore on, daily life became more challenging. The pain in his knee was constant, a reminder that something had to change if he wanted to continue the active lifestyle he cherished.

That’s when James turned to Adirondack Health.

Dr. Szczech, an orthopedic surgeon at Adirondack Health, recommended knee replacement surgery as the best option to restore James’ mobility and ease his pain. Despite the uncertainty that comes with any surgery, James was confident that he was in good hands.

After receiving a knee replacement, James was thrilled to discover that the pain that had once been a constant companion was gone. After his recovery, James was back to doing the things he loved most: running, biking, and skiing.

James has long been competing in the Lake Placid Ironman races and was thrilled to be back in the action after his surgery. In 2023 and 2024, his dedication and hard work paid off when he earned AWA Gold for his age group, a testament to his resilience and the expert care he received at Adirondack Health.

Reflecting on his journey, James was quick to sing the praises of Adirondack Health and the team that helped him through his recovery. He said, “You will never find a better place or staff!”

James’ journey is a testament to the power of determination, the strength of the human spirit, and the incredible impact that quality healthcare can have on a person’s life. Whether he’s racing, skiing, or simply enjoying time with family and friends, James is living proof that age is no barrier to living your dreams.
